Job description

Orano TN is seeking a Project Engineer to support the design, procurement, fabrication, integration and qualification of systems and components associated with spent nuclear fuel storage systems.   The Project Engineer will be the primary interface between subcontractors, customers, and design. 

 

The Project Engineer will:

  • Prepare the procurement specifications, functional requirement documents, integration, test, and qualification plans for spent nuclear fuel storage, transfer, and transport systems, and all manner of equipment needed to handle, manipulate, and operate those systems.
  • Oversee fabrication of these varied products by subcontractors by review of fabrication documents (material testing reports, drawings, routers, special process procedures, inspection and test procedures, etc.) to ensure contractual and design requirements are met.
  • Prepare fabrication documents to support fabrication activities at Orano TN facilities.
  • Support design efforts for new products to enhance fabricability and operability.
  • Prepare design changes and non-conformance evaluations as required during fabrication and provide technical direction and oversight to subcontractors. 

 

Additional job responsibilities will include the following:

  • Design of non-safety related equipment.
  • Visit nuclear facilities to determine concerns regarding new equipment designs and gain information needed to facilitate those designs.
  • Support Operations during field operation of storage, transfer and transport systems.
  • Support proposal preparation.
  • Support Licensing activities.

Ideal qualifications

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity.  Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher-level position.

  • BS in Engineering or Engineering Technology, plus 2-3 years related experience. An advanced degree (MS or MBA) may be substituted for 1-2 years experience. In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4 year engineering degree.
  • Demonstrated background where quick thinking and problem solving plays a critical role
  • Excellent organization, planning and priority setting skills
  • Ability to communicate well with vendors, customer and regulatory authority.

 

The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.

  • Master's Degree in Engineering
  • A working knowledge of ASME Section III, Division 1
  • Experience as a Project Engineer overseeing fabrication projects
  • Demonstrated experience designing items, structures, or components for fabricability
  • Experience working in a metal fabrication environment
  • Experience working at a commercial nuclear facility
  • A working knowledge of AWS D1.1 and D1.6 welding code
  • Familiarity of NRC regulatory requirements
  • A working knowledge of NQA-1 requirements
  • Experience performing structural, thermal, shielding, or criticality analysis
