Orano Expands U.S. Nuclear Materials Transportation Business with TLI Acquisition

BETHESDA, Md., October 1, 2021– Orano’s global business unit, Orano Nuclear Packages and Services (Orano NPS), recently received regulatory approval to acquire Daher’s worldwide nuclear transportation business, including U.S.-based Transport Logistics International, Inc. (TLI). TLI has become “Orano TLI” structured within Orano USA’s TN Americas subsidiary. The intended global acquisition was announced on March 4, 2021.

Orano TLI’s expertise is especially strong in the Front End of the nuclear fuel cycle, including the manufacturing and refurbishment of uranium transport packages, the domestic and international transport of nuclear materials, and packaging engineering and licensing.

Adding the company’s capabilities to Orano’s existing U.S. nuclear materials transport activities provides federal and commercial customers with a broader range of quality products and services, and is a natural fit for delivering on Orano’s long-term uranium sales commitments.

“We are very pleased to welcome the TLI team under the continued leadership of Bob Strang as President of Orano TLI,” said Amir Vexler, CEO of Orano USA and President of TN Americas. “TLI’s expertise and proven portfolio boost our added value for customers, especially at this time when the industry is seeking the strong performance and certainty we bring to every project.”

Orano TLI offers full-service packaging solutions, including design optimization, drop testing, and package refurbishment for Type A, B, AF, BF, 7A, IP-1, and IP-2 packaging. For example, TLI’s DN30 is a certified Type AF, IF and B(U)F package used to transport 30B cylinders containing enriched uranium hexafluoride (UF6) and to protect against all mechanical and thermal impacts under normal and accident conditions. The Versa-Pac is a certified Type AF package for the transport of front end materials and laboratory waste materials, and was recently selected as the package of choice for shipping next generation small modular reactor (SMR) TRISO fuel. Established as the industry’s first-of-its-kind operation, TLI’s UF6 Cylinder Service Center (UCSC) is a dedicated cylinder cleaning and re-certification facility able to handle all types of natural and depleted UF6 cylinders.

This acquisition is part of Orano USA’s strategic focus on growth through generating greater value for customers and leading market trends for competitive, quality performance through closely integrated services across business lines.

Orano TLI has production facilities in Kevil, Kentucky, and offices in Fulton, Maryland.
