FRONT END Fuel Cycle Services
From mining uranium to loading fuel into nuclear reactors, the nuclear industry requires specialized movement between stages. Orano's experience globally moving radioactive cargo includes:

BACK END Services

Orano also serves the world's leading cask owners and facilities with movement of spent fuel, irradiated research reactor materials, and other back end products.

In coordination with our expert transportation teams, we ensure specialized movement of radioactive material both domestically and across international borders by all modes of transport – Air, Railway, Truck, and Sea (even chartered vessel for unique routing/timing demands). The packaging and securement of materials are expertly designed and licensed by our pool of in-house engineers.

Our worldwide network offers exceptional customer service in key ports of loading and discharge. To help soften logistic and administrative hurdles, we maintain memberships with WNTI and WNA Transport Group, opening new shipping routes, unlocking transit ports, and training coast guards, MSA or vessel operators to spread best practices and safety standards around the world.

With our dedicated fleet of equipment including Flat Racks, Containers, Cylinders, and Overpacks AND our elite fleet of services including tracking, storage, maintenance and recertification, Orano is a complete cost-saving transport solution. Our trained and experienced staff ensures that all shipments comply with the rigorous regulations of local and foreign authorities and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Logistics

  • International - Orano coordinates movement of radioactive material across international borders by all modes of transport - plane, ship, barge, truck and train. In conjunction with its partner companies, Orano provides chartered vessels when project commitments and requirements demand special routing, procedures, or timing.

  • Domestic Freight Services - Orano offers integrated transportation solutions with specialization in hazardous and radioactive materials in support of the nuclear fuel cycle using dedicated equipment. With highly trained staff, Orano provides safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation solutions for even the most complex operations. We are licensed and permitted (MC 691856 and US DOT 1941451) throughout the Continental U.S. and Canada for hazardous and radioactive transportation. Orano is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.

Cylinder Services
Orano's UF6 Cylinder Service Center (UCSC) is the first of its kind, a dedicated cylinder cleaning and re-certification facility able to handle all types of natural UF6 cylinders, including 48” X,Y, G – 30B, and 12B. With focused compliance for fulfilling industry standards and regulations (ANSI), we also work under a RAM license issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and in accordance with an NRC-approved NQA-1 Quality Assurance plan.

Cylinder Storage
UCSC has more than 5 acres of storage capacity for 1,000 Full Cylinders, 400 Heeled Cylinders, and 600 Empty Cylinders and includes enhanced safety and security systems throughout the property.

Engineering
Orano's Engineering Services specializes in radioactive material packaging and nuclear material facility engineering for package design, operation, maintenance, and regulatory approvals.

With thorough knowledge and application of international and national regulations, complete and accurate preparation of requisite application materials, and timely submission, Orano ensures that the necessary approvals are in place to support the safe transport of radioactive materials in the USNRC, USDOT, and international regulatory environments.

Packaging

We are a full-service package provider serving the nuclear industry and operating in compliance with NQA-1 and under an approved NRC part 71 QA program. We design, license and produce a full range of industry standard and specialty containers for the nuclear industry. With experienced package designers and engineers on staff, Orano offers full-service solutions, including design optimization, drop testing or package refurbishment for Type A, B, AF, BF, 7A, IP-1, and IP-2 packaging.

    Quality Assurance and Compliance

    Orano works under part 71 NRC approved NQA-1 program. From Design to Final Deliveries, QA department ensure the quality and traceability required in the nuclear industry.
