Junior Nuclear System Safety Engineer supports the development and implementation of the Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) under close supervision of senior engineers. This role assists with documentation of Items Relied On For Safety (IROFS) and supports the team's work on criticality, chemical process, and fire safety strategies to ensure compliance with license documents.

Objectives:

  • Assists in developing and maintaining Safety Basis Documents under guidance from senior engineers
  • Learns safety principles of the reference plant and helps document how they relate to the project's IROFS designs
  • Supports the safe-by-design system approach by gathering and organizing technical information about equipment interfaces
  • Helps maintain documentation of system interfaces and safety requirements
  • Reviews design changes under supervision and learns to identify potential impacts to the ISA following 10CFR70 requirements
  • Works with the Licensing group to help maintain ISA Summary documentation
  • Assists in preparing inputs for the Integrated Schedule
  • Participates in and learns from Process Hazard Analysis, Criticality Hazard Analysis, Fire Hazard Analysis, and External Hazard Analysis activities
  • Learns about Nuclear Safety Programs while supporting documentation of safety-related plans and procedures
  • Attends and contributes to system safety reviews under mentorship of experienced engineers

Ideal qualifications

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this   opportunity.  Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher-level position.

  • BS in Engineering or other technical field, plus 1-3 years related experience.
  • An advanced degree (MS or MBA) may substitute for 1-2 years and (PhD) may substitute for 2-3 years of related work experience.
  • In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4-year engineering degree.

Differentiating Qualifications:

  • Experience with IROFS, ISA, ISA Summaries, Safety Analysis Report (SAR), HAZOP, Risk Determination, NRC 10CFR70 License application process.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of NRC safety standards.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data.
  • Ability to maintain and develop strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Engineering organizations may have additional qualification requirements with established criterion to demonstrate success including but not limited to training courses and qualification cards.

 

Please Note: The provided salary information is a guideline. Your offered salary is based upon experience, qualifications, geographic location, as well as market and business considerations.

Salary range annually: $90-115k
