Process Safety is about protecting people from the types of hazards that are present in the process / manufacturing industries.

As a Process Safety Specialist, you’ll spend your time studying incidents and analyzing processes to understanding hazards and risks, then applying various levels of protection to reduce the frequency and severity of incidents. Reporting to the Safety Coordinator, this position is responsible for the following duties:

Responsibilities include: 
·         Align with and support the Process Safety Manager (Saskatoon office) in the implementation of OCI Process Safety Management
·         Support the development, implementation, review, audit, promotion, and revisions to the Process Safety Management Program
·         Participate in and/or facilitate PSM related incident investigations, incorporating human factors analysis
·         Coordinate, facilitate and participate in various hazard identifications and risk assessments including safety case development and management
·         Steward action item completion and gap closure plans associated with PHAs, incident investigations, audits, MOCs and other PSM activities and assists with their completion
·         Support Safety Critical Measures program by:
Collaborating with Engineering and Maintenance to manage Safety Critical Measures (link between PHA study outcomes, preventative maintenance and inspection plans)
Performing verification and performance of various Safety Critical Measures
Updating Bow Tie Analyses
·         Classify Process Safety Events (incidents and near misses (lead investigations, reporting) and ensuring learnings from investigations result in improvements
·         Support development of key performance indicators for monitoring and improving Orano's process safety performance. This will include assisting site staff on data analysis to:
o    utilize and manage data to forecast trends
o    identify, analyze, and interpret trends
o    generate, update and report statistics on a set frequency
o    help create and maintain various performance dashboards
·         Coach and train employees in various departments on Process Safety requirements
·         Support projects related to process safety improvement
·         Provide technical support to help drive site improvements, including:
o    Review of key safety systems and recommendation of corrective actions from risk assessments
o    Track status of risk reduction activities
·         Provide process safety expertise to support for emergency preparedness
·         Develop and/or update process safety management procedures and work instructions
·         Collaborate with Major Projects and Project Engineering departments

Ideal qualifications

Skills and Qualifications for the position include:
·         A university degree or post-secondary education in a technical discipline with focus in occupational safety, risk assessment and management, professional designation (e.g. APEGS, Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (CRSP)), or the equivalent in education and experience 
·         Familiarity with uranium process hazards will be considered an asset
·         Familiarity with industrial sites will be considered an asset
·         Ability to collect thorough and detailed data for analysis
·         Strong computing skills with an ability to learn new programs
·         Able to read technical and engineering drawings (e.g., P&IDs)
·         Effective interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
·         Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
·         Able to establish effective relationships with a variety of departments

Work Location & Schedule:
·         McClean Lake
·         14 day in/ 14 day out rotating schedule
·         Normally an 11 hour work day, although some activity outside of normal working hours may be required
