AREVA TN Celebrates Opening of North Carolina Facility to Produce Concrete Components

COLUMBIA, Md., June 20, 2016 – Representatives from AREVA TN, AREVA’s nuclear logistics division, today joined state Rep. Bob Steinburg in Moyock, N.C., for a ceremonial ribbon cutting to mark the opening of the Moyock Casting Facility. This is the second major manufacturing site opened by AREVA TN in North Carolina in the past year.

The four-acre Moyock facility will employ 20 people and manufacture the concrete components for AREVA TN’s NUHOMS® horizontal storage modules, a fortress-like system that houses large steel canisters that safely contain used nuclear fuel. These secure, state-of-the-art concrete modules allow for the long-term storage of used fuel and are currently in use at more than 30 nuclear facilities across the country.

“With this new concrete casting facility in Moyock and our stainless steel canister fabrication facility in Kernersville, N.C., we are streamlining our manufacturing process and strengthening our vertical supply chain,” said Greg Vesey, senior vice president, AREVA TN. “These modern facilities enable us to provide superior quality and schedule certainty to our customers with a clear focus on operational excellence.”

A nearby concrete manufacturer will supply the casting facility with raw materials for producing the storage modules. The Moyock area also offers access to shipping options via road, rail and water, allowing AREVA TN to efficiently transport the modules to customers.
