Job description

In this role, you’ll inspire and guide safety staff and employees, develop and enhance safety and training programs and ensure compliance with safety standards. You will oversee Safety, Process Safety, and Emergency Response, and play a vital role in shaping policies. With a focus on safety awareness, you will foster a supportive environment where everyone is educated and encouraged to prioritize safety. At McClean Lake, you will be a key influencer building a culture where safety and care for one another come first.

 

Responsibilities include:

·            Promote and foster a robust Safety Culture at the McClean Lake Operation by educating and coaching both safety staff and employees across all department employees to work more safely

·            Responsible for the direction, supervision, and coordination of Safety, Process Safety, and Emergency Response. Including, but is not limited to:

o     Coordinate the work of staff and prepare reports on the groups activities

o     Coordinate personnel scheduling for the group

o     Team professional development

o     Play a key role in setting and achieving department goals and objectives

·            Oversee compliance with established company policies, legislated requirements, best practices and site procedures, with respect to health, safety, and occupational hygiene

·            Prevent and respond to, situations which may result in health or safety hazards, including the review, investigation, evaluation, trend analysis, and follow-ups on corrective actions

·            Assist with the development of company-wide safety related training programs

·            Advise senior leadership on safety initiatives

·            Lead the onsite Process Safety Team and promote the process safety culture

·            Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies

·            Responsible for group budget control

·            Identify health and safety issues on a proactive basis and implement preventative measures

·            Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training programs designed to reduce  the risk of recurring health or safety hazards

·            Collaborate with the Occupational Health and Safety Committee to promote safety program elements and provide support as needed to enhance the  committee’s effectiveness

·            Identify factors that may pose a health or safety risk or leads to significant loss

·            Promote Operational Excellence efforts and Operational Excellence culture

Work Location & Schedule:
·            McClean Lake Mine Site
·            14 days in and 14 days out rotating schedule, although adjustment of schedule may be required from time to
time
·            11 hour work days

Ideal qualifications

Skills and Qualifications for the position include:

·            Extensive safety related experience is required

·            Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety is preferred

·            5-10 years of experience in mining or other heavily regulated industry

·            Experience/training in Emergency Response is an asset

·            Professional designation (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, NEBOSH, etc.) is an asset

·            Proficient computing skills and experience with MS Office

·            Demonstrated advanced written and verbal communication skills; official communication with regulators and program development is required

·            Demonstrated interpersonal skills for effective safety educating/coaching

·            Solid organizational skills and able to multitask

·            Able to work independently and, where necessary, take charge of situations. Must be able to make decisions under pressure

·            Ability to communicate with personnel at all levels of action, to be taken under specific circumstance

·            Must have a sound knowledge of the company’s operations and of the requirements imposed by legislation and various permits and licenses
