Job description
Orano Federal Services LLC combines the capabilities, technologies, and resources from multiple Orano business units to serve the United States Department of Energy, its subcontractors, and other clients in all phases of the nuclear fuel cycle. We provide know-how, key services, products, and technologies with high added value to our clients and their projects.
Orano Federal Services is seeking a Nuclear, Chemical, or Materials Engineer to support safety analyses for chemical separations processes, nuclear hazards analyses for front-end and back-end activities, and/or materials compatibility assessments performed as part of its engineering division.
The Nuclear, Chemical, or Materials Engineer will perform a variety of engineering tasks that may include but are not limited to:
- Nuclear criticality safety evaluations and calculations
- Radiological shielding evaluations and calculations.
- Nuclear and chemical safety analyses such as HazOps, WhatIfs, FMEAs, Layers of Protection, etc.
- Chemical reaction kinetics modeling and evaluations
chemical interaction matrices. - Development of NRC licensing (e.g., 10CFR70) support documents in support of construction and operation.
- Evaluation compatibility of materials used in chemical separations, nuclear shielding, nuclear material confinement, enrichment, deconversion, etc.
- Development of synergistic ideas applicable across multiple design disciplines.
Please Note: The provided salary information is a guideline. Your offered salary is based upon experience, qualifications, geographic location, as well as market and business considerations.
Salary Range: $85-120k

Ideal qualifications
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher-level position.
- Advanced degree in nuclear or chemical engineering or related field
- Detailed understanding of the nuclear fuel cycle, including recycling/reprocessing, interim storage of spent nuclear fuel, transportation of nuclear fuel, and disposal of nuclear fuel.
- Performing nuclear criticality and shielding analyses
- Technical communication skills including, for example, public speaking and written technical articles.
- Understanding of advanced reactor fuels
Candidates with knowledge on the following topics are likely to be more closely considered for this opportunity.
- Experience with nuclear computational software such as MCNP, KENO, ORIGEN, Whisper, and Tsunami
- Professional Engineer (PE) or working towards PE.
- NRC Licensing Experience with understanding of some of the following regulations: 10CFR50, 10CFR52, 10CFR53, 10CFR60, 10CFR61, 10CFR63, 10CFR70, 10CFR71, 10CFR72, 10CFR73, 10CFR74, 40CFR190, and 40CFR191
- Experience in developing chemical flowsheets for separations technologies and related chemical interaction matrices.
- Ability to perform integrated safety analyses through, for example, HazOps or layers of protection assessments.
- Experience with waste classification and waste volume reduction.
- Understanding of the Nuclear Waste Policy Act (U.S.)
