Under general supervision, the Nuclear System Safety Engineer I-II is responsible for is supporting the development and implementation of the Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA), including Items Relied On For Safety (IROFS), as well as supporting the criticality, chemical process, fire safety strategies, and detailed design for nuclear safety to ensure compliance with the license documents. This position is also responsible for the maintenance of the ISA Summary and all ISA backup documentation and information.
Objectives:
- Develops the Safety Basis Documents.
- Evaluates safety principles of the reference plant and incorporates applicable designs into the project’s IROFS designs.
- Manages the safe-by-design system approach development and interfaces with other equipment for IROFS.
- Ensures interfaces are understood, captured, and documented.
- Evaluates design changes to the license application and identifies potential impacts to the ISA following 10CFR70 requirements.
- Interfaces with Licensing group for maintenance of the ISA Summary and other safety related documents.
- Provides input for the Integrated Schedule.
- Support Process Hazard Analysis, Criticality Hazard Analysis, Fire Hazard Analysis, and External Hazard Analysis.
- Support the Nuclear Safety Programs, as well as other safety related plans and procedures.
- Support major system safety reviews.

Ideal qualifications
All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher-level position.
- BS in Engineering or other technical field, plus 2-3 years related experience.
- An advanced degree (MS or MBA) may substitute for 1-2 years and (PhD) may substitute for 2-3 years of related work experience.
- In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4-year engineering degree.
Differentiating Qualifications:
Experience with IROFS, ISA, ISA Summaries, Safety Analysis Report (SAR), HAZOP, Risk Determination, NRC 10CFR70 License application process.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Advanced knowledge of NRC safety standards.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data.
- Ability to maintain and develop strong interpersonal relationships.
- Engineering organizations may have additional qualification requirements with established criterion to demonstrate success including but not limited to training courses and qualification cards.
