Under broad supervision, assembles orders and prepares goods for shipment, records shipment data (weight, charges, space availability), receives and unpacks materials, and reports damages and discrepancies. Prepares shipping reports. Routinely handles international and hazardous material shipments or performs other complex activities related to shipping and receiving materials consistent with ANSI standards. At this level, may direct the activities of less experienced staff.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Completes transportation requisitions and other documentation for all freight pick up & delivery.
2. Determines and coordinates the appropriate mode of transportation for items to be shipped.
3. Ensures compliance with all DOT regulations regarding transportation, labelling and documentation of materials.
4. Prepares items for shipment using the necessary packing materials and procedures.
5. Maintains records of shipping costs, destinations and the execution/delivery time, as required.
6. Loads and unloads freight as required using fork lift truck, hand truck, overhead crane or other related equipment.
7. Logs shipment data into the appropriate systems; identifies and reports damaged goods or discrepancies and completes necessary forms to recover lost items.
8. Ensures adherence to all applicable safety and health rules.
Trains and directs less experienced staff regarding proper shipping procedures and processes.
Requires a high school diploma, or equivalent, plus a minimum of 6-8 years of directly related experience dealing with all facets of shipping and receiving goods and materials.
