Production has been paused at McClean Lake since late December, but the operation has maintained its staffing levels to minimize disruption to our employees while performing maintenance, training and preparations to enable a smooth restart of the mill.
“I am pleased with the restart of production at the Cigar Lake mine and McClean Lake mill,” said Orano Canada Inc. President and CEO Jim Corman. “We are encouraged to see that the vaccine roll out in northern Saskatchewan specifically is having a real impact and that the pace of vaccinations throughout the Province is accelerating.
“Safety remains our utmost priority and we have been proud to continue to offer a safe workplace over this difficult year. Although we have had a small number of isolated positive COVID-19 cases at McClean Lake, our protocols have been tested to work and we have been able to manage the situation through testing, quick isolation measures and enhanced health and safety procedures. We remain committed to our employees and the communities they call home, and we look forward to a better year ahead.”
Orano Canada and its partners in the McClean Lake joint venture, in conjunction with Cameco’s Cigar Lake mine operation, continue to follow advice from the provincial health authority to ensure the continued safety of employees, contractors and northern communities.
