The Region II Leadership Award recognizes a Region II member who has made significant contributions and demonstrated leadership in the three core values of U.S. WIN. These include supporting an environment in nuclear energies and nuclear technologies in which women and men are able to succeed; providing a network through which the women and men in these fields can further their professional development; and providing an organized association through which the public is informed about nuclear energy and nuclear technologies.

Glover is a founding member of SRS-WIN, the local chapter of U.S. WIN, and serves as its public outreach coordinator. Under Glover’s leadership, SRS-WIN participated in more than 25 public outreach events in 2017, including the Regional Science Fair, S.C. Regional Future City Competition, and often partnered with local schools.

“There is honestly no one in this organization who deserves this award more than Shanteka,” said Lindsey MonBarren, vice president of SRS-WIN. “She sets an example of the kind of nuclear professional (and person) that I strive to be every day. Her commitment is unwavering, and her dedication to the community is inspiring. I am not at all surprised she won and am so lucky that I get to work with her. SRS-WIN is stronger because of her.”

As the winner, Glover represents the 10 states in the local region: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

“I am beyond excited and very humbled for the opportunity to be named the 2018 U.S. WIN Region II Leadership Award Winner. I am glad that SRS-WIN has trusted me with being the public outreach chair since (the chapter was) founded in 2015. However, I do recognize my entire SRS-WIN supervisory board, public outreach committee, and general members because it all requires a team effort,” Glover said.

Mark Gober, vice-president of engineering for CB&I AREVA MOX Services, said, “We in engineering are excited and proud of Shanteka for winning the U.S. Women in Nuclear Leadership Award for Region II. This is a huge professional accomplishment.”

Glover said she is honored to bring the award home to SRS and CB&I AREVA MOX Services. “When I first found out I was nominated right after Thanksgiving, I was ecstatic. Across our 10-state region for U.S. WIN Region II, I was bubbling with joy to know that I was one of three finalists. Fast forward to just over a month later, and I stand victorious for my chapter, the site, the state of South Carolina and the entire U.S. WIN Region II area.”
